KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Departing Johannesburg at 06:30am we head into the world-famous Kruger National Park. We visit the northern part of the park and stay in the Letaba area of the reserve. We enjoy an afternoon game drive in our safari vehicle and hope to spot lion, elephant, rhino and other animals in this icon of wildlife conservation. The following morning, we wake early and game drive north through the park. Northern Kruger is dominated by mopane veld and is the domain of large elephant bulls, wild dogs and lions. We overnight in the far northern section of the park and enjoy the sounds of the wild for another night.

GREAT ZIMBABWE

Entering Zimbabwe at the Beit Bridge border post, we travel north to our overnight stop. The following morning we visit the Great Zimbabwe Monuments. These well preserved ruins are some of the oldest and largest stone structures in Southern Africa and were built during the 11th to 14th centuries. We explore these ancient stone structures on an informative walk with a local guide.

MATOBO NATIONAL PARK

Travelling via the city of Bulawayo we move on to the Matobo National Park and our chalets on the outskirts of the park. This afternoon we enjoy sundowners from the granite ridge overlooking the park. The following morning we visit World’s View and the historical site of Cecil John Rhodes’ grave. Unusual rock formations are home to an array of ancient bushman paintings which we visit while on our game drive and walk. This area is also home to Zimbabwe’s rhino which we hope to see on our excursion in the national park.

HWANGE NATIONAL PARK

Named after a local Nhanzwa chief, Hwange National Park is the largest Park in Zimbabwe occupying roughly 14 650 square kilometers. Hwange is famed for its large elephant population. Our chalets are in the game management area that borders the park, and we explore the park with our local guide, on a full day game drive in an open 4WD game viewing vehicle.

VICTORIA FALLS

We enjoy a spectacular guided walk through tropical vegetation to the very edge of the “Mosi oa Tunya” or “the smoke that thunders” - Victoria Falls. There are opportunities to white water raft on the mighty Zambezi River, bungee jump or take a “flight of angels” (own expense).

CHOBE NATIONAL PARK

Entering Botswana, we head to the town of Kasane and our accommodation on the banks of the Chobe River. The river flows lazily along the northern boundary of the Chobe National Park attracting some of the largest herds of elephant in Africa. A highlight of any trip to the Chobe is the afternoon game viewing cruise where we hope to see large herds of elephants and other wildlife as they quench their thirst at the end of the day.

Majoitus: Thebe River Lodge and Campsite

NATA

This morning we venture into the Chobe National Park in an open 4WD in search of big cats and elephants. Thereafter we head south through the Kasane Forest Reserve to the Nata area for our overnight stop. In the late afternoon we visit Nata Sanctuary for sunset and look out across the expanse of the Makgadikgadi Pans. During dry months, the pans appear as endless white expanses, while summer rains create shallow waters that attract flamingos, pelicans, and migratory herds.

OKAVANGO DELTA

We transfer into the delta by open 4WD game viewing vehicle. Our local guides will take us deep into the heart of the Okavango Delta on Mokoro (dugout canoes) to our pre-erected tented camp. The delta forms as rainwater from the Angolan highlands flows out over the flat Kalahari Desert sands, forming a delicate, green oasis for birds and wildlife. Our camp is on a remote island in this amazingly dynamic environment and we enjoy bush walks, bird watching and swimming in the clear waters. Camping with our local guides we learn more about their lifestyle and culture.

GOO MOREMI GORGE

Heading south from Maun, we cross the wide open spaces of the Kalahari Desert. Along the route we might encounter small herds of zebra interspersed among cattle herds between remote villages. As we approach Goo-Moremi the Tswapong Hills rise above the horizon. Here endangered Cape Vultures nest on the gorge cliffs above the ancestral waterfalls in the protected conservation area of Goo-Moremi Gorge. Time permitting we take an afternoon guided walk to stretch our legs.

Crossing back into South Africa, we make our way to Johannesburg where the tour ends at +/- 18:00.

Letaba Rest Camp, located on a bend of the Letaba River in the Kruger National Park, offers comfortable accommodation options, including guest houses, cottages, bungalows, huts, and furnished safari tents. The camp is known for its game-viewing and bird-watching opportunities. Visitors can enjoy guided game drives, bush walks, and bush braais with trained field guides. Amenities include a restaurant, a cafeteria, a shop and a laundromat.

Great Zimbabwe Hotel is located approximately 700 metres from the Great Zimbabwe National Monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The property features 47 cosy rooms set within the verdant gardens. In-room amenities include bathrooms, hairdryers, tea/coffee-making facilities, workspaces, and TVs. Additional accommodation includes a campground where guests can pitch their tents or park their camper vans on the spacious shaded sites. Facilities and services include daily housekeeping, room service, barbecue facilities, laundry facilities, shared bathrooms, a picnic area, fire pits, a swimming pool, a restaurant, a bar, and Wi-Fi.

Nestled amidst magnificent granite landscapes, Hermit's Peak Guest Lodge offers accommodation situated within the Matobo National Park, which is home to black and white rhino, leopards, and black eagles. The lodge features 10 en-suite rooms. Guests can enjoy meals and drinks in the dining and bar area set under a thatched-roof verandah. Activities include game drives and swimming in a natural rock pool.

Miombo Safari Camp, bordering Hwange National Park, offers a choice of rustic or deluxe accommodation and is ideally situated for day safaris into the national park. The area enjoys the highest concentration of wildlife and is famed for its large herds of elephant. Hwange's elephant population is estimated at 30,000. Situated in the quiet residential area, PheZulu Guest Lodge is approximately 3.5km from the Victoria Falls.
All 21 rooms are tastefully decorated with local artwork with bathrooms en-suite. The lodge oozes vibes of playful sophistication, which combined with the great staff make it hard to leave disappointed.

Thebe River Safaris is ideally situated for visitors to Chobe National Park and Chobe River region in Northern Botswana. The lodge and camp overlooks the placid Chobe River and echo's the surrounding bush with a rustic design. Thebe River Safaris is 12 km from the Kazungula border and 5 km from the Chobe Park entrance. There is a restaurant and bar providing welcome food and drinks and visitors can enjoy the sparkling swimming pool and free Wi-Fi. Available activities include game drives, boat cruises, overnight safari excursions and Victoria Falls day trips.

An oasis set among the Mokolwane palms on the edge of the pans. It is ideally situated close to the entrance to the Nata Sanctuary and is just off the main road, 10 km from Nata village. This is the junction to the Okavango, Chobe and Francistown areas. The Nata River delta feeds the Sua Pan in the Nata sanctuary and forms the breeding ground for a host of water birds including pelicans and flamingo in their thousands, transforming the shore line into a pink haze blending into the western sky. Nata Lodge offers guided tours in open safari vehicles into the sanctuary, not to be missed.

Island Safari Lodge is set on a 300 acre private island reserve, and is just 10 km away from Maun Airport. It is situated on the banks of the Thamalakane River under a canopy of beautifully lush and green Okavango trees. The lodge overlooks a floodplain of fields and water that are frequented by an abundance of birdlife and the occasional Hippo. The lodge offers a tranquil bush setting that is complimented by the river view, a pool and the iconic tranquil call of the African Fish Eagle. The accommodation is comfortable and set in the lodge gardens. The lodge comprises of 12 Chalets, 6 Heritage Rooms and 6 Heritage Family Rooms all with en suite showers, DSTV and air conditioning.The lodge has a main bar and restaurant area with seating indoors or out in the gardens. Located at the foot of the Tswapong Hills in Botswana, the Goo Moremi Gorge is an excellent accommodation option for nature enthusiasts. The resort offers luxury Meru-style tents featuring en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, and cosy beds. Additional accommodation includes self-catering chalets with kitchenettes. Guests can also set up camp on one of the five designated campsites. Facilities include shared bathrooms, barbecue facilities, a swimming pool, and a restaurant.
